Canyon Ridge Springs is a rural, gated, private access community located in the scenic Central Texas Hill Country. It is approximately 45 minutes Northwest of Austin, Texas, and adjacent to the 27,500-acre Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge.
DARK SKY COMMUNITY
For much of Earth’s history, our remarkable universe of stars has been visible in the darkness of the night sky. But increasing urbanization, combined with the excessive and inefficient use of light, has created a kind of pollution that obscures the stars from view and leads to numerous other disturbances.
Our area is unique for migratory birds and it is highly encouraged that during the spring and fall migration that outdoor lighting is turned off or minimized to encourage the nesting of the bird population in our area and the Balcones National Wildlife area.
“Dark Sky” lighting is strongly encouraged in Canyon Ridge Springs to minimize light pollution and to conserve the natural, ambient night sky by using low-wattage bulbs on exteriors that are shielded to emit light only downward and do not exceed the height of the eave of the structure.
